CAUGHT RED HANDED
Nearly a decade ago, RED ROBIN and just about every other restaurant pledged to stop using eggs from inhumane, nasty battery cage facilities. So what happened?
Red Robin broke its promise to customers and clearly has no plans to get back on track. Worse, the company is greenwashing its practices and misleading its customers into thinking it actually has high standards. Yeah right.
Can we trust what Red Robin says? We wouldn’t recommend it.

Where does Red Robin get its eggs?
GOURMET BULLSH*T
Red Robin uses eggs from battery cage facilities where animals are confined so tightly that they have hardly any space to move around or even spread their limbs. Hens are forced to eat, sleep, defecate, and lay eggs in the same cage day after day for years on end. This is physical and mental torture.
Confining animals in battery cages is so cruel that the practice is illegal in numerous states and dozens of countries. Even McDonald’s and Taco Bell have banned battery cage eggs from their restaurants.
THE TRUTH:
LOW STANDARDS
According to the Center for Food Safety, cage conditions can compromise food safety. Hens in battery cages are “often covered in feces from birds in overhead cages and are prone to drowning in manure trenches,” leading to increased contamination risks.
LAGGING BEHIND
Producing eggs in battery cage facilities is illegal in ten states and dozens of countries. Thousands of companies have also banned cage eggs, many citing consumer demand for higher standards.
LOW QUALITY
A 2023 North Carolina State University study found that hens’ housing environment significantly affects egg quality. Eggs from conventional cages were consistently of lower quality than those from cage-free and free-range systems.
LOAD OF LIES
Red Robin claims to care about “Treating Animals with Integrity” and yet it is doing almost nothing to address even the most basic of animal welfare issues. What else is the company lying to customers about?

21%
CAGE-FREE
Red Robin last reported being 21% cage-free, but we know this is only because at its California locations, it is illegal to source battery cage eggs. It’s not worth bragging that you’re following the law.
$8.5
MILLION
In 2023, CEO G.J. Hart’s annual compensation package was over $8.5 million. And yet, the company is considering closing stores due to rising debt and lagging performance. Maybe improving food standards would help!
???
HENS
We don’t know how many hens are trapped in cages laying eggs for Red Robin’s food. The company keeps this number secret.
